About this deal

It will pay dividends to really experiment with the crossover settings to get the best blend so to speak but I found that in most cases 150hz usually provides the best results - 140Hz at the very lowest - any lower & the sub can be localised. Play around with the crossover till you get the best sound.

The Oberon 3s have a sound that I would describe as articulate, especially with human voices, with a mid-range that is a bit more tilted forward in sound compared to my Revel F26 towers. When toed in, the treble seemed a bit aggressive and taking the grilles off heightened the effect. I would recommend leaving the grilles on and doing as suggested by the manufacturer, set them up pointing straight out into the room. Though they sound bigger than their size suggests, they really don’t dig deep in the bass department. Having a sub helped fill in the bottom octave made them sound bolder and more authoritative. The Sony manual says to crank up the crossover to it's highest setting on the subwoofer and set the volume to half way then do a calibration to allow the AVR to set the correct crossover frequency for it. The AVR set the speakers crossover to 140hz. Spendor A1 (which I've also had) are IMO a better all-rounder and less fussy about placement due to their sealed box/infinite baffle design. They're not speakers with big personality, rather they major on even response across the frequency range, clarity and tonal accuracy. Here's a slightly curve ball suggestion: get an ifi Zen One Signature DAC and put it together with the amp of your choice. The Zen One is small, discreet, has a wide range inputs and sounds superb (well, I think so at least). Unless it is a very potent performer, I personally would not get a 8" Sub as it will show its limits fairly early on - my Velodyne being an example of an exception to this. I would look at 10" subs ideally & maybe even a 12" one.

I guess from what I have read I perhaps would need both an AV reciever and a stereo amp for the R3 (AV receivers don’t have enough power to drive them?) ,do I have to worry about matching which amp with wich receiver? It can sound complicated but it's really not and it does work seamlessly. The 3600 also benefits because it is no longer driving the R300s and the that saved power is distributed to the remaining speakers connected to the 3600.SUB E-9F er bestykket med en helt nyudviklet 9” low-loss long-stroke basenhed med membran i ren aluminium. The new subwoofer from DALI features a 9” woofer, capable of moving lots of air with power and precision. The cone is made from pure aluminium for maximum stiffness and a becoming exterior. Furthermore, the heavy magnet system wields a massive 4-layer, long-stroke voice coil. The Dali is a pretty subwoofer, but I agree with Robbiey. Their stated frequency range is 28 Hz to 190 Hz +/- 3 dB. For music (except for pipe organs and synthesizers) it should do the job nicely. For HT, I'd be looking at subwoofers that will get you down to 20 Hz (and 25 Hz with excellent output). You have a medium size room (56 cu. meters or around 2,000 cu. ft) so at a minimum I'd be looking at the SVS PB-1000 (but if you have the funds, the PB-2000 would be an impressive improvement). Don't know where you call home, but SVS may be available to you. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) I have read that the Dali's tend to be bright so a warm recevier Marantz (6013/6014?)would be a a better fit, but dont know how the Maratnz would be compared to the 3600 (there is a good deal at the momnet on the 3600s). Would you recommend swapping out the recevier?

To fully exploit the combination you do have to have all your music sources connected to the Elicit, in my case that's pretty simple a SACD player. When I want to play music from the SACD player I only have the Elicit fired up and it acts as it should a pure analogue amp driving the R300s.How big your room is isn’t so much of an issue if you’re sitting fairly close to the speakers - the most important thing is the direct sound from the speakers and how far that has to travel.

All in all, the heavy-duty abilities of this “motor system” ensure that the woofer always follows the signal from the amplifier! The engine of the woofer is built around an ‘oversized’ ferrite magnet, and optimized for maximum flux within the voice coil gap. The reason is that it was crucial for the project team to reach a high B/L product to enable the SUB E-9 F to render the finer low frequency details of music, also at a higher sound pressure level. The measured B/L value of 14 N/Ampere is a good indication of the level of control and precision that was reached, and rarely to be found in this category at all. And the numerous listening sessions has truly convinced us that this was the right way to go. Thank you both. This may sound a bit stupid, but I kinda assumed that if I go with a proper AV receiver I wouldn’t have to worry about amps/etc.The integrated 170 Watt RMS Class D amplifier is a highly linear construction. The DALI SUB E-9 F will follow and render the required signal with an absolute minimum of bias. Designed not only for continuous power, but also for peak power, this subwoofer is able to deliver 220 Watt Peak Power. This is very relevant when it comes to both movie and music signals. We have an Indian(?) member here who went from XXLS400 to SB2000 and then finally to PSA S1500. Each upgrade was a good step up. I can`t remember your name, but if you read this reply here. From what i remember some forum has measurements for XXLS400, it starts dropping around 25hz. And lowest notes are said to be "soft" in BK. Again not a fair fight as the prices are quite different and SVS has digital dsp amp (Class D) and BK more basic one (Class AB). Plus SVS has better driver.. But for the price BK is still great, beating many more expensive speaker manufacturers subs. For Harkons case i would like to see bigger jump in performance, so XXLS400 wouldn`t be my choice as guy has more money to spend also. If you want to try something less expensive, but extremely talented, I very much enjoyed the Quad S2. The ribbon tweeter brings almost holographic imaging, and it's a well balanced design all-round - much more so than the older 11L and 12L models (which were very competent). For film and TV you have the 3600 and the Elicit fired up, all you do on the Elicit is to engage HT by-pass by a simple press of a button on the fascia or the remote. Adjust both the gain and crossover on the Dali E9F for best sound using some test tones and music. You should or want to blend the output of the Dali E9F with your speakers so that the Dali E9F more or less becomes invisible with a seamless, one sound, coming from all the speakers.
